In the gaming world, having a headset which is on point at all times is vital and this applies to competitive play and gaming in general. Without the use of reliable gaming headphones, how are you expected to perform at your best? In this article, we are looking at headsets with the best overall features as well as looking at pricing and comparing them to other headsets on the market.
Razer BlackShark V2 (View on Amazon)

The Razer BlackShark V2 is one of the best headsets on the market. The headset comes with the TriForce Titanium 50mm drivers for top audio, giving you the ability to hear every inch of the audio and as well as this, you also have the THX Spatial Audio, which is absolutely pinpoint when scouting out enemy footsteps. The HyperClear Cardioid Mic comes with a USB sound card, which is used to perfect the voice capture and gives you the ability to alter this via the Razer Synapse program. To add to that, the microphone really has been refined with the BlackShark V2 and we would say its one of the best headset microphones we have used. Now, how does the headset feel? Like many Razer headsets, this is no different and follows on from previous editions as it uses memory foam cushions and provides you with the feel of premium quality, as well as being completely lightweight.
Positives include:
- Incredible quality and design
- USB sound card which enhances the microphone quality
- One of the comfiest headsets we have tried
- THX Spatial Audio is spot on
Negatives include:
- Not wireless (option of BlackShark V2 Pro Wireless is available however for an increased price)
HyperX Cloud Alpha (View on Amazon)

Over the past 5 years, I have had numerous amounts of HyperX headsets and never been disappointed. If you want a simple, yet fantastic gaming headset then the HyperX Cloud Alpha is no different. Using the HyperX dual chamber 50mm drivers, the distortion is reduced by separating bass frequencies to provide accurate and smoother in-game audio. Following on from other HyperX headsets, the Alpha uses the over-ear design with premium memory foam to ensure comfort for longer periods of gaming. When you look at this headset and its price, it’s really hard to look elsewhere. The Alpha comes with audio controls, allowing for easy volume adjustment or muting of your microphone in pressure situations.
Positives include:
- Great build quality for price
- Excellent sound and picks up footsteps well
- Audio controls for easy access to muting / adjustment of volume
- Option of wireless too
Negatives include:
- Microphone could be better
- Very little customisation due to no software
Logitech G Pro X (View on Amazon)

The Logitech G Pro X headset is at the top of the market like a lot of the G Pro range from Logitech. The headset uses the Blue VO!CE technology, which gives the Logitech G Pro X that crisp voice and allows you to communicate with confidence. Using next-gen 7.1 surround sound and the PRO-G 50mm drivers, the G Pro X has incredibly good sound and is perfect for competitive gaming as I can guarantee you won’t be getting killed from behind with this piece of kit. The additional noise cancelling adds to this already near-perfect headset and there’s not much we can say bad about this. Similarly to the HyperX Alpha, you can adjust the sound and mute your microphone at the touch of a button. Overall, a great pair of headphones and perfect for all-round gaming.
Positives include:
- Crisp sound with 7.1 surround sound
- Voice is pretty good quality with the blue vo!ce mic filter
- Fantastic price for what is on offer
Negatives include:
- No wireless
- Not as portable as some other options
SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless

The sound quality on the Arctis Nova Pro is incredible. The bass, trebel and mids are designed perfectly and detail is one of the best we have ever seen on a gaming headset. The wireless option comes with easy-to-connect bluetooth and noise cancellation, as well adding comfort into the equation. The 360 spatial audio allows you to become immersed into any of the gaming worlds you get stuck in, whether that be the world of Skyrim or something more basic such as CS:GO. It’s an all round headset for any game and take advantage of the infinity power system, where you can charge one battery while using the other, so you never have to worry about being out of action. The noise cancelling on the microphone is better than any others we have tried as the ClearCast gen 2 mic silences any background noise, ensuring the best communication is possible. Lastly, comfort is also no issue as the earcups are beautifully crafted and the flexible suspension band allows for customising how you want the headset to fit. If you are looking to spend some money on a headset, then this is the one.
Positives include:
- Best sound we have had on a gaming headset
- Incredible microphone quality
- Well-built and great design
Negatives include:
- Expensive in comparison to other headsets
Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless (View on Amazon)

The Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless offers a great design alongside their hyper-fast slipstream wireless for low-latency and great audio. With the addition of the immersive Dolby Atmos on PC, you can guarantee your game will be taken up a notch, being able to easily hear footsteps and more important sounds. The audio drivers provide frequency range of between 20Hz to 40,000Hz, so you can pick up any sound, no matter how big or small. As well as this, the headset also comes with a well-equipped microphone with an additional flip up mute function. Adding to this with excellent build quality and plush comfort, the HS80 RGB is bound to be a great option for you if you’re looking to fork out on a wireless headset and not willing to spend the additional funds on the SteelSeries Arctis.

- Low latency wireless performance
- Great build quality and design
- Dolby Atmos for perfect sound quality

Razer Barracuda X (View on Amazon)

The wireless Razer Barracuda offer USB-C Wireless Multi-Platform with high speed 2.4Ghz connection. Enjoy flawless gaming sessions on-the-go as this headset offers more portability in comparison to alternatives, with a weight of 250g and an ergonomic design. The usual Razer TriForce 40mm drivers are built to give exceptional highs, mids and lows, regardless of whether you are using them for music, gaming or general entertainment and the 7.1 surround sound creates a brilliant overall sound. Although the Razer Barracuda lacks slightly in the quality of its microphone, it’s still pretty good for the price and offers suppressed background noise and improved quality, as well as being able to detach this at any given point. Beneath the ear cups of the headset, you can take control of your audio with various buttons, allowing easy access to mute / change the volume.
Positives include:
- Great quality 7.1 surround sound
- Lightweight and more portable
- Detachable microphone
- High speed wireless
Negatives include:
- Microphone quality could be better
- Poor noise cancellation
Summary
Overall, it depends on your budget you have. The SteelSeries headset is no doubt the best sound quality you’re going to get however it comes at a hefty price, so you we would say the BlackShark V2 is definitely a great alternative. If Razer isn’t your thing, then the Logitech G Pro X is a fantastic headset and something you can always rely on. Every headset has its positives and negatives so have a look through and see which suits you best.
