The highly anticipated Sons of the Forest, which is a follow-up from The Forest, has now been confirmed as going into early access to avoid any further delays to the game.
The game is still due to be released on the 23rd February however the initial plan was to release game fully with regular updates. However, the devs have confirmed this will not be the case, “We didn’t want to delay again so have instead decided to involve the community in the continued development of this project and keep our February 23rd release date but instead release in Early Access.”
The reason for the delay appears to be relating to so much more content needing to be added which clearly will not be done by the date the game is due to release. They said, “It’s been a long journey since we first started ‘Sons of The Forest’ development and it’s grown into the biggest most complex game we have ever made. There is still so much more we want to add; items, new mechanics, gameplay balance and more.”
Following on from this, they finished by saying, “‘The Forest’ turned out to be a massive success, due mostly to the awesome community and the suggestions, feedback, and bug reports the players shared with us. We are really excited and hope that players want to come on this new journey with us to make this the ultimate survival horror simulator.” which gives us the impression the game will not be as polished as people are expecting but they hope players will assist in providing information on what can be improved.
Endnight are planning to keep the game in early access for around 6-8 months but have said this could change, which is likely going to be down to how well the development goes during the period, as well as how many issues players report over that time. Unfortunately, the decision to do this is something a lot of players may be sceptical of as the expectation was the game would be finished once released however it appears players will now need to wait 6-8 months before being able to play a finished title.
