MultiVersus was a highly anticipated game developed by Player First Games. At its initial launch, the game boasted over 100,000 players but has since lost over 99% of its player base.
On February 13, the game fell below 1,000 players for the first time since its release and continues to dwindle. Even though the game was a smash hit due to its diverse range of characters and unique gameplay, its clear that players have not been happy with the updates and the games overall setup.
One of main reasons behind the huge player drop has been down to a lack of updates, with only one character being added in the past few months, since the start of season 2. The new season was also delayed to March 31 when it should have been released yesterday, allowing players more time to complete the current seasons battle pass.
In addition to the lack of content, players have regularly expressed their dissatisfaction at the games way of getting characters. The in-game currency can be bought using real money and this will allow you to purchase characters for upwards of $15, which means certain characters can only be unlocked by simply spending money.
As VGC have reported, the game hit a peak of 986 on February 13, which marks a drop of 99.3574% of their initial player count and this has happened in just under seven months. Surely with a continued downward spiral like this, the game will struggle to remain online as it’s a free-to-play, live service game.
