A recently exposed exploit for GTA V online has apparently been released, which could potentially allow a hacker to corrupt in-game files and get rid of your account, as well as potentially even taking this further and gaining access to execute code on your machine. This could mean resetting your in-game rank, stats, money and more!
In recent years, GTA Online has been riddled with hackers, exploits, money glitches and much more but a more recent exploit seems to be a lot more severe than others we have seen. A report, shared by ‘TezFunz2’ , has mentioned, “New extreme exploits have appeared allowing cheaters to remotely add, remove, or modify your stats and permanently corrupt your account.”. This means anyone currently playing online may have to be extra careful or, as suggested already, avoid playing the game altogether until this is fixed.
Speyedr, the creator of the Guardian anti-cheat, has since said, “This exploit is so serious that one wrong setting or action could result in the loss of your account or even your PC files.”. As well as this, he has disabled access to any builds of the anti-cheat in a bid to stop people connecting to the GTA Online servers. Speyedr has also said, “Just to reassure everyone–Guardian still works, and this new exploit doesn’t somehow bypass Guardian. HOWEVER, the chance of any user (especially beginners) setting up Guardian incorrectly in a way that doesn’t protect them is too high for such a dangerous exploit.”
As mentioned by Speyedr, the possibility of also being able to remove PC files is something even more scary than just alter in-game stats, which is why it’s being suggested to resort to staying put until the issues are resolved. The issue seems to be relating to potentially using the Guardian anti-cheat tool incorrectly. An example of this would include shutting the anti-cheat by mistake while a modder was trying to to you and doing so would put you in serious danger. According to various reports, the exploit could possibly allow hackers to “execute code” on the users machine, causing the corruption of PC files or something far worse.
The above video shared by @Fluuffball on Twitter shows the effects of what the corruption of your account looks like. The corrupt account feature offered in the mod menu which initially caused this has since been removed but there are a lot of accounts who have already been affected by this. @TezFunz2 on Twitter advises to remove Rockstar Games folder from documents then reload the game in order to fix the corruption. The mod menu in question, which I won’t mention the name of, has come under serious backlash from the modding community as they basically allowed anyone with a subscription to corrupt accounts without any effort and hence the reason for it now being removed.
In a most recent update from TezFunz2, who is respected in the community, he explained that Rockstar are fully aware and looking into this:
I would advise until Rockstar release further information to advise they have combatted the issue and have fixed it, we do recommend staying away from GTA Online for the time being to avoid any problems.
