The free-to-play battle royale game published by Epic Games has only been available for 5 months but according to a source, is due to close in February. The source, who goes by the name of Tom Henderson, is a known insider within the industry and has said it is due to shut in February and there will be an “announcement coming”.
The Tweet was made just hours ago but so far, no news from Epic Games:
A lot of people are unsure whether this is true however Tom said, “I think store delistings start today” and followed up with, “So there’s probably an announcement coming”. This has also attracted the attention of one of the biggest streamers Lirik, who said, “Damn, loved my time on it”.
When the game first released, it attracted the attention of players immediately due to being free-to-play and being a slightly different experience in comparison to Fortnite. However, over time, the game has appeared to lost a lot of its players. The viewing figures in the first few months peaked at 88,007 but in the last 30 days has only managed 6358 at its peak. December seen an average of 572 viewers and November was at 1188, which shows a massive decline on Twitch viewers.
The game is due to begin being delisted from stores today and then if true, will shut down towards the end of February. What are your thoughts on the news?
