Blood Bowl 3 was released, and it’s safe to say that most gamers are not pleased with the state of the game. On Steam, the game has a 73% negative rating and is rated as “mainly negative.” This is primarily because of how the game was when it was released.
The way the game has been monetized has received the majority of the criticism. The game has a lot of microtransactions, and the Warpstone used as the game’s currency can be bought with real money. In-game items like additional factions, league entry, and cosmetics may all be obtained with this. This means you must purchase currency in order to fully enjoy the game because it is tough to get this by merely playing the game.
Players were at least anticipating a full game when it finally debuted because the game was first scheduled for early access launch in 2021 but was then postponed to a full release in February 2022 and another year later to February 2023. Also, Blood Bowl 2 was a tremendous hit with players, so there was a lot of anticipation for this game and especially as Blood Bowl 2 is nearing 8 years old.
To add to the scummy microtransactions, the game has been labelled as “not finished” by players as it involves a huge of bugs and a lack of content. A review on Steam says, “Recommendation is to avoid until the game has been fixed, as this feels like a alpha just now”. Another player also said, “It’s so unfinished! I have no clue how steam can allow this for sale.”
According to dataminers, it has been reported that the developers, Cyanide Studio, cut out 7 teams in order to push for these to be added as part of a battlepass, which is likely to cost more money.
Hopefully we can see Cyanide regain the communities trust with regular updates for the game over the coming months but difficult to see how they are going to recover from such a disastrous launch.
